'Experimental tissue characterisation: cutting edge tool for science and education', 2023

This project combines education and research to explore human tissue properties and gather data to improve simulations.

Knowledge development on human tissues

This project aims to better understand the properties of human tissue, a key area in both medical and engineering research and education. While current property data and reports offer limited statistical parameters, they often lack location- or function-dependent data. To address this gap, the researchers are developing a new teaching module that involves manual measurements of human tissues. In this module, students from VU Amsterdam and the UT will gain hands-on experience, exploring the texture and structure of human tissue, conducting experiments, processing data, applying bio-statistics and reporting according to research standards. This approach enhances students' learning while generating high-quality data for an open database. Ultimately, this work will lead to more accurate computer simulations and reduce the need for animal studies.
