The Creative Technology bachelor's at VU Amsterdam is approaching – a milestone of growth, collaboration and visibility in Amsterdam.

The tram stop

The launch of the Creative Technology (CreaTe) bachelor's program at VU Amsterdam in 2023 is getting closer. Alma Schaafstal, the project leader responsible for setting up the satellite location on behalf of the UT, regularly blogs about the journey to Amsterdam.

"Sometimes, activities and milestones follow each other at lightning speed, making it hard to choose what to highlight. We recently attended VU Amsterdam's Open Days for the second time and met prospective students who traveled to both Twente and Amsterdam in one weekend to experience the differences between VU Amsterdam and the UT for themselves. Additionally, we had an incredibly inspiring visit to VU Amsterdam. We saw the opportunities the Demonstrator Lab offers for CreaTe and ME, and we appreciated the warm welcome.

Regarding pre-registrations: we expect to start in Amsterdam with about 50 to 60 students in the first year – a great number. Another highlight: the Program Committee was pleased with the implementation of Humane by Design, allowing us to move forward with the OER. And honestly, there’s so much more to be happy about.

The power of the CreaTe campaign

Still, my personal highlight has to be the beautiful CreaTe campaign and banners. Why? Because seeing them displayed all over Amsterdam and beyond was an emotional moment. It was amazing to share that moment with everyone who helped search for locations in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Hilversum, and Amersfoort. Why emotional? Because at that moment, you truly realise how many people contributed to this campaign – how every word was carefully considered, and every detail meticulously refined. Because it highlighted the depth of our collaboration and the strength of the program as a whole. And because it made us realise just how much work has gone into implementing CreaTe in Amsterdam over the past year.

And let’s be honest – how many bachelor’s programs get the chance to be advertised in the middle of Amsterdam, at a tram stop? It suddenly makes us feel incredibly significant. And significant we are – because so many students are already entrusting us with their educational future. And in the end, that’s what truly matters."
