'Furthering design thinking in VU-UT education and research into complex societal challenges', 2022

Complex social issues require design thinking

Students increasingly encounter complex societal challenges during and after their studies, which require transdisciplinary and systemic approaches, such as design thinking. This research aims to promote the use of design thinking in education by evaluating the experiences of both teachers and students. At VU Amsterdam and the UT, design thinking is applied across various disciplines, from Science Communication to Law and (Design) Engineering. By researching these applications and gathering insights from lecturers and students, both universities can provide valuable knowledge on design thinking for teaching. This enables lecturers to better equip their students with the skills and knowledge needed to address complex societal issues, both now and in the future.
