The Tram Booth

The start of the bachelor programme Creative Technology (CreaTe) in 2023 at VU Amsterdam is getting closer and closer. Project manager Alma Schaafstal is to set up the branch on behalf of the UT and regularly blogs about the ‘road to Amsterdam’.

'Sometimes activities and milestones succeed each other at lightning speed and it is hard to choose. For example, we were at the Open Days at VU Amsterdam for the second time and were faced with study seekers who travelled to both Twente and Amsterdam in one weekend to experience for themselves the difference between both universities. We also had a very inspiring visit to VU Amsterdam. We saw the opportunities for CreaTe and ME offered by the DemonstratorLab and enjoyed the warmth of people at the reception.

About the pre-registrations: we expect to start the first year in Amsterdam with about 50 to 60 students, a great number. Also nice: the programme committee was satisfied with the programme of Humane by Design, so we can move forward with the Education & Examination Regulations. And actually, there is much more to be happy about.

Yet, as a highlight, I choose CreaTe's beautiful campaign and banners. Why? Because it was an emotional moment to see them hanging in all kinds of places in Amsterdam and far beyond. And it was also very cool to share that moment with those who went looking in Amsterdam, Haarlem, Hilversum and Amersfoort. Why emotional? Because at that moment you really realise how many people worked on that campaign. How every word was discussed and attention was paid to every detail. It made a lot clear about the collaboration and about the programme as a whole. We realised how much work was done by a lot of people in the past year to implement CreaTe in Amsterdam.

And let's face it: which bachelor programme gets the chance to be advertised in a tram booth in the middle of Amsterdam? It feels like we are suddenly very important. And in fact we are, because so many students are already putting their educational future in our hands. And in the end, that is what really matters.’
